Answering your questions

1. What is a usability study?

A usability study is a short, structured session where you try out a medical device or a set of instructions. Afterwards, you share what feels clear, confusing or unexpected. We’re not testing you — we’re testing whether the product is designed safely and simply for real people.

2. Will it be safe?

Yes. Sessions are designed to be completely safe and low risk. You will never be asked to give yourself or anyone else medication, or do anything clinical. If anything ever feels uncomfortable, you can pause or stop at any time.

3. How do I know if I'm eligible?

Each study has its own criteria, such as age, experience, health condition, or familiarity with a type of product. When you sign up, we’ll ask a few quick screening questions to match you to suitable studies. If a particular study isn’t the right fit, we may contact you for future ones.

4. Do I need to prepare anything?

No preparation is needed. Just arrive as you are and we’ll explain everything when you arrive.

5. Do I need to bring anything?

Usually, no. If a specific study requires something (like reading glasses or a device you already use), we’ll let you know beforehand.

6. Can I bring someone with me?

You’re welcome to bring a companion for support. Only the scheduled participant can take part, but companions are welcome to wait nearby.

7. Will the session be recorded?

We usually request to record audio and video to help our team analyse interactions accurately. We will always ask your permission first.

8. Where does the study take place?

The location will be confirmed in your invitation — typically an accessible, comfortable venue used for research sessions, or occasionally online.

9. How is my information kept confidential?

Your personal information is stored securely and only used for research. When we share findings with clients, your feedback is anonymised (for example, “Participant 7”). If we use recordings, this will be explained in your consent form and you can opt out.

10. Will I be compensated?

Yes. Each study includes a fixed thank you payment, which depends on the length and type of session. The compensation covers your time and travel costs. The amount will always be shared with you before you book. Payment is provided at the end of the session via a secure method. We’ll only use the contact details you provided when signing up, and we’ll never share them outside the research team.

11. What if I need accessibility support?

If you need stepfree access, breaks, largerprint materials, a quiet space, or anything else to take part comfortably, just let us know. We’re happy to arrange reasonable adjustments.

12. Can I take part more than once?

Yes, many participants take part in multiple studies. We simply avoid inviting the same person to test the same product.

13. What if I can’t attend or change my mind?

Please make every effort to attend if you can. But we understand, life happens and sometimes plans change. If they do, please let us know as soon as possible so we can either reschedule your attendance or to find someone else to replace you in the study.

14. Who do I contact with questions?

You can contact us at participate@formara.consulting with any questions or to rearrange your session.
